When you think about abortion, what comes to your mind? Do you picture a woman with her legs spread open, having an invasive procedure performed on her by a stranger? Do you see the clinic walls with posters saying "Keep Abortion Legal" or "I'm Pro-Choice"? Do you imagine a doctor trying to convince a woman that she's not really pregnant, even though she is? If so, you're right—abortion is an awful thing that can happen to anyone. It's also an injustice.
For most people, this is the first time they've heard the word—and it's an important one to learn. Abortion is the greatest injustice that can be committed against an unborn child.
It puts the life of the unborn child at risk, puts the woman's health at risk, and it ends God's plan for that child's life. In fact, when you look at what a pregnancy actually means to a mother, it becomes clear that abortion isn't just unjust—it goes against everything we know about what being pregnant means to women and their bodies.
Abortion is a tragedy because:
It is unjust because it was never meant to be done—it can't be justified by anyone. And it's wrong because God says that we have a right to life, and abortion takes that right away from someone else by ending the life before they've even had a chance at life.
Abortion takes away the right to life for those children who would have been born if not for abortions: babies who would have lived fully and beautifully as human beings without medical help or support.
It takes away the right to life from those who are yet to be born—including future generations of humans
It ends God's plan for humanity. The Bible clearly teaches us that we are created in God's image (Genesis 1:27) and were created to live as our Creator intended: in relationships with Him and each other, growing, learning, and developing into something great. An abortion breaks this beautiful cycle. It kills what could have been a person who would have grown up to be a great contributor to society!
We know that everyone has a purpose for living and abortion unjustly ends the life of the unborn, and ends God's plan for them. It takes away the right to life that they deserve on this earth. We were created to love God by loving others (1 John 4:19) and to make a difference in this world by bringing glory to God (Romans 12:1-2). Abortion takes away the ability to do that!
